SWCP Day 2: Perranporth to Portreath, Getting into the rhythm.

I set off at 10am which I will learn later on the trail is a very late start. Over the weeks I begin waking up at 5am and set off at 5:30.

A very hot day with clear blue skies and restless sea to my right. The rhythmic crashes of the waves are very soothing on the ears. A really challenging second day as I walked 16 miles on my first day yesterday and I think my body was still adjusting to the weight of my pack, the heat and walking long distances.

The landscape was filled with small purple flowers beloved by bees

On the trail around midday I meet a friendly lady and her daughter who recommend a nearby town in St Agnes to get a tea. I ended up getting a chocolate ice cream which is dearly welcomed in the heat! So many ascents and descents. Today everything sunk in. It dawned on me that the route was tougher than I had thought and I’ll probably have to build up my stamina and strength. My feet hurt a bit so I planned to pick up some thicker socks in a next available spot.

My first encounter with wild ponies on the SWCP

A really satisfying second day. Ultimately, the realisation what I’ve set out to achieve dawned on me. I was thankful that so much beautiful landscape was available in England and for free!

My Lanshan 1 Pro Ultralight tent - I'd gotten quick at putting it up
